Angel Reese Gets Double-Double as Sky Lose to Sparks With Cameron Brink, Van Lith Out

Angel Reese posted a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double, but the Chicago Sky fell on the road to the Los Angeles Sparks, 91-78.

Sparks guard Kelsey Plum led all players with 28 points and eight assists, hitting 6-of-10 three-pointers along the way. Azurá Stevens added 24 points and eight rebounds for the 2-3 Sparks.

There were a few keys to this game. Los Angeles’ 33-point third quarter proved to be a key difference after taking a 43-39 halftime lead. The Sparks led 76-64 going into the fourth and enjoyed a comfortable edge from there.

In addition, the Sparks got hot from three-point land, led by Plum, hitting 13-of-27 threes overall. Chicago, meanwhile, only made 4-of-20 threes.

Kamilla Cardoso excelled for Chicago in limited action (12 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes), but her court time was limited due to foul trouble. Courtney Vandersloot and Rebecca Allen each added 11 points.

Chicago was without rookie Hailey Van Lith, who is dealing with an ankle injury. There was a good pregame sign, though, as she got some pregame work in.

The Sparks were still without center Cameron Brink, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft. Brink suffered a torn ACL in her left knee last June. Thankfully, she’s on the road to recovery and also got some pregame work done.

As for Reese, the ex-Maryland and LSU star has now posted 31 straight games with 10 or more rebounds, per Karli Bell. For the season, she has averaged 9.0 points on 30.3 percent shooting and 13.7 rebounds.

As for Chicago, the team is off to a rough 0-3 start. The Sky will look for win No. 1 on Tuesday at the Phoenix Mercury.
