Canada’s Gabriel Diallo upsets No. 18 Cerundolo at French Open
Another Canadian is through to the second round at the French Open.
Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo beat 18th-seeded Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets — 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 — in the first round at Roland-Garros on Monday.
Diallo joins 18-year-old Victoria Mboko, who won her opener on Sunday, in moving at the second Grand Slam of the season.
The win marks Diallo’s first-ever at the clay-court major. He reached the second round at the Australian Open in January and the third round at the U.S. Open last year.
