It promises to be an entertaining second day at the French Open with 24 matches on the schedule in Paris. As always, we at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Carlos Alcaraz vs Giulio Zeppieri, Jannik Sinner vs Arthur Rinderknech, Taylor Fritz vs Daniel Altmaier, Holger Rune vs Roberto Bautista Agut, and Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry – but who will book their spot in the second round?
French Open Day 2 Predictions
Nicolas Jarry vs Arthur Fils
Ilemona: Arthur Fils enters Roland Garros with strong form and home-court support, making him the clear favorite against an out-of-sorts Nicolás Jarry. The Chilean has struggled this season, posting just seven wins and showing little momentum on clay. Fils should control the match with his power and confidence, likely sealing it in straight sets.
Prediction: Fils in 3
Damian: It doesn’t matter where Jarry’s ranked at the moment, he’s a deadly opening round draw. A playstyle like that doesn’t need much rhythm to suddenly fire up and trouble a top seed. Fils hasn’t really shown his best yet at Grand Slam level, but he’s improving and will likely handle this challenge. One way or another.
Prediction: Fils in 4
Tope: Jarry has faced challenges with his game throughout a disappointing season thus far in contrast to Fils, however, who has shown greater consistency, reaching four consecutive quarter-finals from Indian Wells to Barcelona. The young Frenchman will enjoy excellent support from a hopeful crowd and will be eager to start strong at his home slam. He should comfortably advance through this first-round match against an out-of-sorts Jarry.
Prediction: Fils in 4

Casper Ruud vs Albert Ramos Vinolas
Ilemona: Casper Ruud enters the French Open as a strong favorite against Albert Ramos-Viñolas, despite their 4–4 head-to-head record. Ruud has dominated their recent encounters. With Ruud’s superior form, he is expected to advance comfortably.
Prediction: Ruud in 3
Damian: It’s a great story that Ramos-Vinolas was able to make it to the main draw in his last ever Roland Garros, but he was helped out by physical issues of Burruchaga and Collarini. The veteran doesn’t have much game left and while he’s still a very smart player, Ruud should be all over him here.
Prediction: Ruud in 3
Tope: Quite interesting that the head-to-head between this pair reads 4-4 with the veteran Spaniard ahead on their clay court encounters. This would have been a classic slugfest years ago but Ramos Vinolas is not in any physical shape to challenge one of the favorites for the title in a five-set match.
Prediction: Ruud in 3
Sebastian Ofner vs Jan-Lennard Struff
Ilemona: Sebastian Ofner enters the French Open in strong form, having won five of his last six matches, including a semifinal run in Geneva. In contrast, Jan-Lennard Struff has struggled, losing five of his last six matches and managing only one win in his last twelve. Ofner’s recent success and superior clay-court performance make him the favorite to advance.
Prediction: Ofner in 3
Damian: Form-wise it’s a mismatch, but it probably won’t be that straightforward. Struff has won just one match since the middle of February and Ofner just reached the Geneva semifinals, firing on all cylinders in the warm-up swing. It’s tough to go against the Austrian, even if hard-hitting duels like this can be unpredictable.
Prediction: Ofner in 4
Tope: Kudos to Sebastian Ofner as to how he has handled his comeback with remarkable composure. He has shown steady improvement each week and has won an impressive 15 of his last 21 matches including a solid comeback win over Karen Khachanov in Geneva. Contrastingly, German, Struff is still trying to find his rhythm after several months of struggle and it is safe to say the Austrian has a mental edge in this one.
Prediction: Ofner in 4

Denis Shapovalov vs Pedro Martinez
Ilemona: Denis Shapovalov has struggled for form on clay but still holds the edge over Pedro Martinez thanks to his firepower and past win on the surface. Martinez is more comfortable on clay, but Shapovalov’s shot-making gives him the tools to escape in a tight four or five sets match.
Prediction: Shapovalov in 4
Damian: It’s clear that Shapovalov is vulnerable at the moment, but Martinez also hasn’t been doing all that much to suggest he’s going to step it up here. Let’s say the Canadian somehow manages his peaks and valleys well enough to get the win, after all the Parisian clay was rather kind to him in the last two editions.
Prediction: Shapovalov in 5
Tope: Shapovalov’s performance has declined after a relatively strong start to the season and he has struggled on clay this year, winning just once in five matches. Martinez has also faced difficulties lately, failing to achieve back-to-back wins on clay this season after reaching the semifinals in Buenos Aires. Shapovalov won their only encounter in Rome five years ago and while the Canadian is the better talent, he looks beatable at the moment and it is all up to the Spaniard to take advantage.
Prediction: Martinez in 5
