NYY @ LAA: Carlos Rodón vs. Tyler Anderson
The Yankees took care of business last night in Orange County, with a tidy 5-1 win led by a tremendous start from Ryan Yarbrough. Now, they’ll turn from a guy we’re surprised by to the guy pitching like a man possessed as the club tries for yet another series win, with Carlos Rodón getting the ball for a late start in Anaheim.
Since the calendar turned to May, Rodón seemingly decided not to allow runs anymore. He’s bookended his four starts this month with shutout performances, and overall allowed just five men to cross the plate in 23.2 innings, while striking out 28. Max Fried is getting plenty of headlines for his play with the club, but Carlos has become that 1A we have always hoped for.

Tyler Anderson meanwhile seems to be pitching against the clock. A 3.60 ERA ain’t bad at all, but a strikeout rate well below league average and allowing the fifth-most home runs in baseball breeds trouble. He’s going to need to fix one, or both of those things, or that ERA won’t be below four for long. Personally, I’m OK if he fixes them starting tomorrow.
