‘Ultra-low-cost airline’ begins new nonstop flights at PDX
The new routes include nonstops between Fresno, California; Cincinnati; Flint, Michigan; and Indianapolis.
PORTLAND, Ore. — Allegiant begins nonstop flights from four major U.S. cities to Portland International Airport starting Friday.
The new routes include Fresno, California (via Fresno International Airport); Cincinnati (via Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport); Flint, Michigan (via Flint Bishop International Airport); and Indianapolis (via Indianapolis International Airport).
In the fall, Allegiant announced it was expanding flights to 51 cities around the country, in one of the airline’s largest service expansions in its history. The move was driven by growing demand and the company’s commitment to providing “ultra-low-cost airfare” to underserved communities with limited or no air service, Allegiant said.
According to Allegiant’s website, the price of flights from Portland to Fresno range from $42 to $55 one-way; from Portland to Cincinnati, $55 to $167 one-way; from Portland to Flint, $60 to $80 one-way; and from Portland to Indianapolis $59 to $110.
“By connecting more cities, we’re making it easier for travelers to visit family and friends, access top leisure destinations, and create new memories,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s chief commercial officer, at the time of the announcement. “Our research shows that customers increasingly want affordability and convenience when they fly. Our low-cost fares and nonstop flights make Allegiant a top choice for leisure travelers.”
Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated that new Allegiant was offering direct flights, rather than nonstop flights. Direct flights may have a stop on the ground where some passengers remain on the same aircraft, while others deplane. A nonstop flight means passengers are flown straight to their destination.
